When Is The Best Time To Post On Instagram in 2020? | Tips & Tricks

Despite talk of Instagram planning on reverting their post feed to show in sequence of when the posts from profiles we follow are shared, there’s still a lot of gray area that everyone is working with in the efforts of improving engagement and visibility. A lot of tips and tricks circulate online, but they have to be updated constantly to keep up with Instagram’s algorithm!

Are you struggling with Instagram engagement and post visibility? This might be the post you’re looking for.

One of the tips to zone in on is figuring out what time and days are best for you to post on your profile, but before you get ahead of yourself, there are other factors you need to consider before diving into experimenting with post times:

  1. Are you creating compelling content
  2. Is your content attracting the audience you want?
  3. Does your content present opportunities for followers and potential audiences to interact with?

If you’ve answered yes to all of the above, then let’s proceed!

When Is The Best Time To Post On Instagram?

According to Hubspot, “On average, the best time to post on Instagram is between 2 PM and 3 PM CDT. However, the level of engagement you get can change dramatically depending on what day of the week you post. The best day to post on Instagram is Thursday, not just at 3 PM, but at 5 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM as well.”

They supplemented that bit of information with Sprout Social’s data to explain that behaviors in our everyday lives pair with the suggested times. Sprout Social’s data shows the following:

  • Posting at 7 AM (EST), Tuesdays thru Fridays - Posts shared at or around this time shows some of the highest engagement as this is when people are starting their day. If your following is primarily in a different time zone, this might prove otherwise but that’s why it’s important to consider hashtags to try and draw in followers from different time zones.
  • Posting between 1 PM to 4 PM (EST), Weekdays - This time range also shows good engagement for posts because of lunchtime and people are starting to lose steam from the work day and opt to check their phone to keep alert.
  • Posting at 1 PM (EST), Weekends - Good engagement on the weekend requires considering when people are out socializing. They’re more likely to be engaged on their devices during these times.

Will These Suggested Times Work For Me?

It’s worth checking out, however we will say that depending on your audience and the content you’re posting, the results may show differently. The best way to figure out your optimal - or best performing - posting time is to experiment away!

Use your Instagram Planner to log the times you’re posting and take note of the engagement as you go along. We recommend giving posts at least 72 hours before reporting on the engagement you see for the posts to give time for it to circulate.
