National Gratitude Month: How To Live A Grateful Life (+ Free Wallpaper Download)

What’s your earliest memory with gratitude?

It might’ve been when you were in grade school and you noticed everyone was talking about thankfulness but only next to the topic of Thanksgiving. Alternatively, it might have been living in a household that practiced gratitude daily; not just confined in one month.

Whatever the path that brought you to this point in your life, gratitude should be constant.

November is National Gratitude Month but it’s a dedicated month to remind you why gratitude could be a consistent practice and experience in your emotional and mental wellness.

Why Gratitude Is Important

It’s scientifically proven that gratitude has stabilizing benefits. For example, Positive Psychology shared, “Researcher Chih-Che Lin (2017) found that even when controlling for personality, a high level of gratitude has a strong positive impact on psychological well-being, self-esteem, and depression. Basically, this means that we can reap the best benefits of gratitude by embodying gratitude and truly living a life of gratitude, a state that we can get to through regular practice and commitment.”

Gratitude doesn’t lean in on toxic positivity.

It’s a conscious decision to put more focus on gratitude making it more difficult to fall into negative thoughts and focusing on daily stressors. Gratitude aids in your cortisol levels, improving your stress management, which then strengthens your emotional resilience. Standard everyday stressors like running late for something or accidentally breaking something in the kitchen will roll off your back with more ease. The key? Consistency.

You’ll be able to control how you react and how you let things impact your day.

How to Set the Wallpaper as Your Desktop Background

Below you will find instructions for setting the wallpaper as your background depending on which type of desktop device you’re using.

How to Set Up (Mac Users):

  1. Download this file: Click Here
  2. Save the file to Pictures folder on your Mac.
  3. Click the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.
  4. Go to Desktop & Screensaver.
  5. In the left panel, go to Folders > Pictures.
  6. Select the downloaded image.
  7. Look at the wallpaper and repeat the affirmation aloud 3 times daily.
OR
  1. Download this file: Click Here
  2. Save the file to a preferred folder.
  3. Open the folder and right click on the downloaded file.
  4. Select Set Desktop Wallpaper.
  5. Look at the wallpaper and repeat the affirmation aloud 3 times daily.

How to Set Up (PC/Windows Users):

  1. Download this file: Click Here
  2. Click the Windows icon on the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select Settings > Personalization.
  4. Click on Background.
  5. Set the dropdown to Picture and click Browse beneath the images that appear.
  6. Select the downloaded file.
  7. Look at the wallpaper and repeat the affirmation aloud 3 times daily.
